Custodian (Cleaner)

Location: New York City Metropolitan Area

Pay: $17.50 to $21.50 per hour

Job type: Full-time

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Position overview

Keep assigned areas clean, organized, and disinfected to support a safe, well-maintained environment. You will clean a variety of spaces and help ensure supplies and equipment are used properly and safely.

What you will do

• Clean and disinfect offices, bedrooms, kitchens, dining areas, restrooms, closets, stairwells, windows, outdoor areas, and other assigned spaces
• Perform routine custodial tasks such as dusting, mopping, vacuuming, carpet cleaning, and restocking paper and soap supplies
• Empty trash and dispose of waste properly
• Report issues and submit work orders through a computerized system when needed
• Maintain custodial equipment and use it correctly and safely
• Support training of new staff on routine custodial practices
• Assist with snow removal and minor building maintenance such as touch-up painting and replacing light bulbs
• Mix and use cleaning solutions according to manufacturer instructions in approved, labeled containers
• Track and manage inventory of cleaning supplies
• Complete other assigned duties

Requirements

• At least 1 year of experience performing routine custodial work
• Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English
• Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
• Comfort using computer applications such as email and work order systems
• Ability to use a smartphone app for access to workplace programs as needed

Physical requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, run, and climb stairs
• Ability to lift up to 30 lb
• Ability to meet job requirements with or without reasonable accommodation
