Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Steel Production Worker to join our team. Reporting to the Production Supervisor, this role involves operating various shop equipment to process steel orders efficiently, ensuring timely delivery while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and productivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate machinery, tools, and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Identify and retrieve structural steel/rebar from warehouse racks to fulfill orders.
- Load and unload processing machines.
- Ensure machine guards are in place and materials are handled safely.
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Operate overhead cranes (training and certification provided).
- Use cutting saws, rebar benders, and shears (training provided).
- Measure and inspect material lengths and bends in rebar steel.
- Follow company work procedures, safety regulations, and operational guidelines.
- Report any safety hazards or unsafe conditions.
- Maintain punctuality and consistent attendance for scheduled shifts.
- Keep work areas clean and organized.
- Adhere to Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act regulations.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in a non-climate-controlled environment, subject to seasonal temperature changes.
- Continuous walking and standing throughout the shift.
- Occasional heavy lifting – team lifting or equipment must be used for loads exceeding safe limits.
- Work in a steel yard or shop environment, which may involve dust and debris—appropriate clothing is required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg) safely.
- Use of hard hat, safety glasses, earplugs, gloves, and steel-toed safety boots is mandatory.
- Strong hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Core Competencies
- Ability to stand, bend, and lift as part of daily tasks.
- Proficiency in reading a tape measure and following measurements accurately.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, and fractions).
- Strong communication skills (English reading and writing required).
- Teamwork, dependability, and integrity in the workplace.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2–3 years of experience in a manufacturing or construction environment.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Safety footwear (CSA-approved) required.
- Previous experience operating an overhead crane or forklift is an asset.
- Experience working with sheet metal is an advantage.
- Familiarity with CNC machines and programming is considered a strong asset.
