Cleaner – Housekeeper

Position Overview

Reporting to the Department of Environmental Services, the Cleaner keeps hospital, laboratory, classroom and office areas safe, sanitary and presentable. You’ll work independently or as part of a crew, delivering high‑quality cleaning services across our 33‑acre campus.

Minimum Requirements

  • No formal education or experience required (Labor Class)
  • Physically able to perform all duties (standing, bending, climbing and lifting up to 60 lbs)
  • Able to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior custodial or commercial cleaning experience
  • Familiarity with floor‑care equipment and safe‑handling procedur

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect and dispose of trash and recyclables; safely remove hazardous waste and spills
  • Prepare cleaning carts; mix and dilute solutions per manufacturer instructions
  • Sweep, mop, strip, wax and buff floors; shampoo carpets and vacuum mats
  • Wash walls, partitions, windows, corridors and stairwells
  • Sanitize restrooms, showers and high‑touch surfaces to infection‑control standards
  • Dust and polish fixtures, furniture, wood and metal surfaces
  • Replace light bulbs; clean light fixtures using ladders or lifts
  • Monitor supply levels and report equipment issues to your supervisor
  • Move and arrange furniture for meetings or events; hang blinds, curtains and pictures
  • Assist with seasonal tasks—snow removal, sidewalk cleaning, lawn care or linen changes—as assigned

Compensation: $18.40–$22.40 per hour
