About the Role
As a Construction Laborer you’ll play a vital part in keeping DOHMH facilities safe and operational. Reporting to the Field & Facility Manager, you’ll assist skilled trades staff with repairs, minor installations and emergency work—helping us deliver uninterrupted public‑health services to every New Yorker.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive DOHMH vehicles to deliver tools, equipment and supplies to multiple job sites.
- Load and unload trucks; move furniture, materials and machinery (manual or with forklifts/pallet jacks).
- Organize and relocate office furniture, partitions and surplus inventory; assist with departmental moves.
- Perform basic demolition, clean‑ups and minor building repairs under supervision.
- Support licensed trades in carpentry, HVAC, plumbing and electrical tasks.
- Respond to building emergencies and participate in public‑health emergency activations.
- Maintain safe work practices and follow all DOHMH policies.
Minimum Requirements
- Driver’s Licence: Valid NY State Class D (must be maintained).
- Able to meet job‑related medical and physical requirements.
- No specific education or work experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with building maintenance, moving, or warehouse operations.
- Familiarity with forklifts, pallet jacks and power tools.
- Strong work ethic, reliability and ability to work independently or in a team.

Work Location: Queens, NY
Salary: $290 per day (equivalent to civil‑service rate)
