Construction Worker Queens

About the Role

As a Construction Laborer you’ll play a vital part in keeping DOHMH facilities safe and operational. Reporting to the Field & Facility Manager, you’ll assist skilled trades staff with repairs, minor installations and emergency work—helping us deliver uninterrupted public‑health services to every New Yorker.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive DOHMH vehicles to deliver tools, equipment and supplies to multiple job sites.
• Load and unload trucks; move furniture, materials and machinery (manual or with forklifts/pallet jacks).
• Organize and relocate office furniture, partitions and surplus inventory; assist with departmental moves.
• Perform basic demolition, clean‑ups and minor building repairs under supervision.
• Support licensed trades in carpentry, HVAC, plumbing and electrical tasks.
• Respond to building emergencies and participate in public‑health emergency activations.
• Maintain safe work practices and follow all DOHMH policies.

Minimum Requirements

• Driver’s Licence: Valid NY State Class D (must be maintained).
• Able to meet job‑related medical and physical requirements.
• No specific education or work experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with building maintenance, moving, or warehouse operations.
• Familiarity with forklifts, pallet jacks and power tools.
• Strong work ethic, reliability and ability to work independently or in a team.

Work Location: Queens, NY

Salary: $290 per day (equivalent to civil‑service rate)
