About the Role
An experienced and strategic Public Relations Manager is needed to lead external communications initiatives and support select internal communications efforts for a mission-driven healthcare organization focused on advancing health equity and strengthening community relationships.
This is a highly visible role with significant ownership and autonomy, reporting directly to senior marketing and communications leadership. The position is ideal for a creative storyteller and communications strategist who can identify meaningful media opportunities, shape public perception, and strengthen brand visibility across healthcare, technology, and community-focused sectors.
The Public Relations Manager will serve as a key spokesperson for the organization, oversee earned media strategy, manage media relationships, support executive communications, and help protect and strengthen the organization’s public reputation.
Time Zone Requirement: Candidates must be based in the Central or Pacific time zones
Status: Full-Time
Salary: $120,000 – $130,000 per year
What You’ll Do
- Serve as the primary media relations lead and build strong relationships with journalists, editors, producers, and media professionals across healthcare, technology, Indigenous affairs, CSR, and national news outlets
- Identify and execute earned media opportunities including expert commentary, trend-based media engagement, op-eds, awards programs, speaking opportunities, and thought leadership initiatives
- Develop communication strategies and marketing campaigns that promote healthcare programs, services, initiatives, and community engagement efforts
- Create compelling story angles that translate complex healthcare and mission-driven work into clear, engaging narratives for diverse audiences
- Monitor media trends and industry conversations to identify timely and relevant opportunities for brand visibility and public engagement
- Manage media inquiries, coordinate interviews, and oversee message development for all press interactions
- Organize press events, media announcements, service launches, and public-facing communications activities
- Maintain media databases, track media coverage, and regularly report on reach, audience sentiment, and campaign impact
- Serve as an organizational spokesperson during media interviews, conferences, trade shows, speaker panels, and public events
- Provide spokesperson training and media coaching to executives and organizational leadership
- Prepare talking points, briefing materials, Q&A documents, and messaging guidance for leadership ahead of media and public appearances
- Advise senior leadership on reputational risk, emerging public issues, and communications strategy
- Write and edit press releases, media advisories, executive thought leadership content, organizational statements, bylines, and op-eds
- Develop crisis communication plans and manage official crisis response communications when necessary
- Collaborate with marketing teams to align public relations initiatives with broader brand and campaign strategies
- Support internal communications initiatives and help maintain consistent organizational messaging
- Identify and pursue creative public relations opportunities including podcasts, awards programs, partnerships, community events, and speaking engagements
- Bring an entrepreneurial and innovative mindset to communications strategy and brand storytelling
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in public relations, media relations, or strategic communications
- Demonstrated success in earned media strategy and public relations campaign execution
- Experience working across healthcare, technology, Native or Indigenous affairs, corporate social responsibility, or related sectors preferred
- Proven experience serving as an organizational spokesperson and coaching executives for media engagements
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to communicate complex topics clearly and effectively
- Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to identify and capitalize on emerging public relations opportunities
- Established media relationships or the ability to rapidly build strong journalist and media networks
- Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity when working alongside Indigenous communities
- Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects, and manage deadlines with minimal supervision
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field
