About the Role
This opportunity is for a Head of Marketing to build and lead a full marketing function from the ground up in a mission-driven, national organization. The role focuses on developing strategy, launching campaigns, and scaling awareness across multiple audiences including students, institutions, and partners.
This position operates as a one-person marketing team, combining high-level strategic planning with hands-on execution. The role requires ownership of all marketing channels, including SEO, content, email, and digital campaigns.
Employment Type: Full-time
Annual Salary: $95,000 – $105,000 per year

What You’ll Do
- Design and execute a comprehensive marketing and growth strategy from the ground up
- Identify priority audiences and develop targeted messaging across multiple segments
- Build scalable marketing systems including campaign planning, analytics, and content workflows
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align marketing with product and program growth
- Define performance metrics and track results to optimize marketing effectiveness
- Develop and implement SEO and Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) strategies
- Manage and improve performance of multiple websites and digital properties
- Use analytics and search insights to increase engagement and conversion rates
- Oversee content updates related to research, product releases, and user resources
- Lead website improvements to align with evolving strategy and offerings
- Create and manage email campaigns targeting different audience groups
- Develop campaigns that drive user engagement and completion of key actions
- Create and publish social media content, with a focus on LinkedIn
- Support executive-level visibility through content and messaging development
- Translate complex topics into clear, compelling narratives for diverse audiences
- Develop thought leadership content including articles, commentary, and public messaging
- Identify opportunities to contribute to industry and policy-related conversations
- Define and track key performance indicators across the marketing funnel
- Build dashboards and reporting systems to monitor campaign performance
- Run experiments to improve conversion rates across channels
- Use data insights to continuously refine messaging and strategy
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field
- Proven experience building marketing strategies from scratch and executing them independently
- Strong experience with SEO and Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)
- Experience developing and managing email and social media campaigns
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to simplify complex topics into engaging content
- Experience working with complex subject areas such as technology, education, or policy is helpful
- Experience using analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Search Console, or similar platforms
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, startup-style environment
- Experience in higher education, technology products, public policy, or mission-driven organizations is a plus
- Experience with growth marketing, analytics, or media outreach is beneficial
