Senior Accountant

Remote (Canada)

Employment Type: Full-Time, Fixed-Term (approximately 14 months)

Compensation:
$75,000 – $100,000 CAD annually

About the Role

This senior-level accounting role provides comprehensive financial reporting, audit support, and quality control across multiple business units. Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the position plays a key role in ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely financial information for internal and external stakeholders.

The role is fully remote and may be performed from anywhere in Canada. Occasional travel to office locations may be required. This position is intended to provide coverage during a maternity leave and is expected to last approximately 14 months.

Key Responsibilities

Internal Audit and Quality Control

– Support monthly, quarterly, and annual control documentation
– Perform internal audits to ensure consistency and accuracy of financial statements

Budgeting and Forecasting

– Prepare quarterly budget templates for regional leadership
– Support corporate and regional overhead cost planning
– Populate corporate budgets and forecasts
– Enter budget data into accounting systems

Financial Reporting

– Review branch project accounting for weekly reporting
– Assist with monthly consolidated financial reporting
– Support preparation of annual statutory financial packages
– Maintain branch financial packages and accrual tools

Accounting Operations

– Perform balance sheet reconciliations
– Maintain IFRS 16 leasing schedules
– Update and manage ERP financial data
– Act as primary contact for annual audits and documentation requests

Program Oversight and Support

– Oversee corporate credit card program and compliance reviews
– Review transactional work and audit receipts for accuracy
– Provide vacation coverage for regional and corporate accounting functions
– Support ad-hoc reconciliations, analysis, and journal entries as needed

Qualifications

Education and Experience

– Enrollment in or completion of a CPA program, or equivalent professional experience
– At least five years of progressive accounting experience
– Experience applying IFRS and performing account reconciliations
– Background in construction accounting within a multi-currency environment
– Management experience is considered an asset

Skills and Capabilities

– Advanced Excel and strong analytical skills
– Excellent organization, presentation, and attention to detail
– Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
– Comfortable working independently or collaboratively
– High level of discretion when handling confidential information
– Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics or similar ERP systems is considered an asset
